Additions to Our School Room

I was able to pick up a couple of cool visuals for our school room and I wanted to share them with you.  The first is a behavioral chart that I have been wanting for a while...

The blacked out area up top is where the kids' names are, you know how I am about my nicknames on the blogs...

Anyways, this chart is great for behavior.  Basically, green means everyone is happy and doing well.  Yellow means there is a warning given, behavior is disappointing, we need to calm down and get back on track.  Red is when you get a time out to chill out.  You get the idea and it really is a good idea.  Bright, functional, adjustable (I have different emotion cards to use in the center depending on what may be happening that day - for instance, a school day and a weekend differ in behavior needed) - I love it and it is working well with both kids!

The second thing I got is a new school room calendar...

I absolutely LOVE this calendar! It is very versatile and it actually has much more to it than I have used here.  I really wanted this specifically because Bean will be home schooled for first grade and there is a lot you can do for lessons involving calendars - everything from your basic days of the week and counting to pattern recognition and place value.  Really, you can create a complete morning routine based around the calendar that is both educational and fun.  I'll have to share more on that another time.  For now, isn't it pretty?

I love my school room.  We don't always do everything school related in there, we use the room for other things and we bring lessons out to the living room and kitchen as well, but all in all, I just love my school room.

I may need to start implementing the behavior chart. Very cool!

  4. I teach kindergarten and use pocket charts for everything, I have that exact stoplight one and it really works great. You are right about the pocket chart calendar, so much you can do with it. Another good idea is to use a pocket chart for poems, lots of literacy activities there and kids love it.
